Shepard Fairey’s HOPE Original at the National Portrait Gallery
Every single person who at least tossed a cursory glace at 2008’s election campaign knows this poster.

It’s likely the first image people remember when they think of Obama, because it was reproduced in so many different ways…ways that are traditionally reserved for rock bands and underground art. This piece virtually spurred a micro-renaissance in political art, inspiring a completely separate and extremely valuable community of creative minds, unlocking the support of many that wouldn’t have cared otherwise.

On the day of Obama’s Inaguration, the National Portrait Gallery (operated by the Smithsonian) will display the original mixed media piece. I find this to be such an amazing feat, considering Fairey’s roots wheat-pasting and stencil-spraying OBEY Andre the Giant images all over Los Angeles 20 years ago. It’s even more remarkable that the Portrait Gallery normally only displays Presidential portraits at the end of their term. Now, I wouldn’t know this for sure, but it seems like something that would be unprecedented… And that is really awesome. Good work, Shep!

...this one was meant to be posted in the beginning of october. i know why i never went on with this one, mostly because i didn't feel like debating anything more than politics with electa at the time. so all i'll say is, how many blogs does the world need with nothing but cupcake recipes? and who in their right mind pays $12 for a single cupcake (besides cindy mccain)? and i'll leave it at that.

Gummi Lego Blocks [Nom, Nom, Nom]

My parents spent the greater part of my childhood trying to convince me not to put small things in my mouth. Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters… all kinds of currency. They purposely avoided buying toys with small parts, due to the fact that their idiot son would most surely eat them. You know that warning on boxes, this product may include small parts? That was written for me. I’m that guy.

Well, my poor parents would have flipped out over this recipe on Instructables. They’ve got directions on how to make your own edible Legos. These are just perfect for parents that are trying to teach their children not to eat normal Legos, and ideal for me. Now I can finally live out my dream of devouring some Legos.
