"like a child" by jars of clay
the brew dujour:
Fair Trade Wicked Winter Blend- This is a rich blend that is meant to be enjoyed slowly. It works well on its own or with food (especially chocolate). I really wish I could get it in beans, it would be perfect in the french press.

"tomorrow still come" by will dailey
the brew dujour:
Special Reserve Colombian Flor de Cauca- These beans have an amazing aroma of chocolate, black cherries and a hint of amaretto. Brewed, this is an incredibly smooth Columbian blend. It's perfectly roasted and balanced. I highly recommend it.

"your body is a wonderland" by sam dearmond
the brew dujour:
fair trade organic espresso blend- a shot of espresso has a lot more going for it than a kick of caffeine. something about the rich, bold flavor warms you from the inside like a snifter of brandy. this blend balances that great espresso flavor with the drinkability of a delicious cup of joe.

"long road to forgiveness" by jason mraz & brett dennen
the brew dujour:
fair trade golden french toast- this coffee is an integral part of four of the best things in life: lazy sunday mornings, jason mraz on my ipod, breakfast in bed and a ginormous mug of coffee... so perfect together. all the perfection of french toast, in the convenient vessel of a mug; the rich butter with hints of egg finishing with maple syrup.

"i saw the light" by todd rundgren
the brew dujour:
fair trade organic ethiopian yirgacheffe- "coffee can be traced back to as early as the ninth century, when it appeared in the highlands of ethiopia. according to legend, ethiopian shepherds were the first to observe the influence of the caffeine in coffee beans when their goats appeared to "dance" and to have an increased level of energy after consuming wild coffee berries. from ethiopia, coffee spread to egypt and yemen. it was in arabia that coffee beans were first roasted and brewed, similar to how it is done today."

these beans are a tribute to the humble beginning of the brew that i love so much. the sweet flavor of chocolate dipped orange rind lingers with each sip, and the slightly smoky roast balances the sweetness perfectly. rare perfection that can only be found at the source.

"god is in the people" by melissa etheridge
the brew dujour:
fair trade island coconut- I stash Island Coconut in my freezer and only take it out for rare occasions. This morning's rare occasion was that it was snowing like a bastard outside. I would appreciate a warm beach and some rays of sun, and this flavor takes you straight to the tropics. As if I really need to say it- I wish it was available all year long.

"arthur's theme" by christopher cross
the brew dujour:
fair trade wild mountain blueberry- i had a real hankering for blueberry coffee today. normally the fruity flavor makes me think of summer, but it is way too cold for a mere steamy cup of blueberry goodness to make the transport on its own. that being said, i drink my coffee with milk & sugar, but i happened to have picked up a bottle of coconut creme coffeemate at the store the other day (yum). a splash of coconut in my blueberry java was just the boost i needed to feel like i was basking in the rays of the summer sun... but wait, it's still cold outside. really cold.

i must mention, as a side note to your morning coffee, that bread's greatest hits was the very first cd that i ever owned.

"everything i own" by bread
the brew dujour:
fair trade wicked winter blend- a brew drunk in honor of the ridiculous amounts of snow that mother nature has dumped upon our northern regions. why not enjoy the cold with a toasty, chocolaty cup of caffeinated goodness? wicked winter is the way to go. (even if you're stuck in non-snow covered regions like myself.)

"you give me something" by james morrison
the brew dujour:
harvard blend- a lovely young chap send me a sack of this blend over the holidays, and although it's a very light roast, it has that generic coffee flavor that's very comforting. nothing too bold or too uptight, a tad acidic, a tad robust, and generally very delcious.

"raincoat" by kelly sweet
the brew dujour:
double black diamond- green mountain calls it their "boldest extra bold." strong & bold, but oh so smooth. it's so dark and robust, it should be illegal. i think this coffee is where the phrase 'once you go black, you never go back' actually comes from.

"everything" michael buble cover by afraid of everest
the brew dujour:
southern pecan- i've been rocking the southern pecan in k-cup form. one part southern pecan + one part double black diamond = a cup of java that i wish i could enjoy with paula deen. the southern pecan is roasted perfectly and has the perfect amount of flavor, not too sweet, but sweet enough. it makes for an excellent morning.

Repost: Soy Sauce Packets & Mp3s [2008 in Tunes]

happy new year!!! here's a repost from a couple of days ago... my new years gift to you...

i'm glad that 2008 is almost over, because it's been a really, really long year. i'll spare further details, and just say that i'm glad that i had music to escape to. this album consists of 27 songs that helped me get through the year; some new, some old, some classics, some soon-to-be. in any case, these are the jams that got me through some strange times. many of them you may have heard throughout the year, be it with [your morning coffee] on weekends, or in a listen-up post whenever a song was stuck in my head. this album is my gift to you, i hope you enjoy it.

a few notes on the album- 1) i usually stress myself out when making a mixtape, by trying to put the songs in the perfect order. i didn't this time. i did a bit of shuffling, but for the most part, i let the album make itself. consider it to be organic. 2) i didn't pay much mind to the number of songs that would fit onto a cd, because i put the songs as a playlist on my ipod. if you plan on ripping this to a cd, you're gonna need two. 3) i've already passed some of these songs on to some of you regular-reader types, so i setup the file to download one song at a time, in case you already have some. sorry it'll take you a little longer than it should. and 4) when you click the link below the tracklist, the page has the songs in the same order, except for song #22, because the band's mp3s have chastity belts tighter than a jonas brother and i couldn't change the track name.

An Extra Dose of [Your Morning Coffee]

"momma's boy" by chromeo
i spent half the morning trying to download chromeo's fancy footwork album, while hanging out with my mom and listening to random old school tunes on itunes. this song has been stuck in my head for days because of molls, and it seemed appropriate for today's events.

the brew dujour:
costa rican peaberry select- me and moms were sipping on this brew, made in the french press. i was a bit disappointed in it's acidity, but with some sugar and a bit of cream, i was able to balance it out and enjoy it's flavor.

"aspen glow" by john denver
the brew dujour:
fair trade wicked winter blend- i can't lie and said that i've had this blend yet, but i can tell you that i am seriously looking forward to it! just like seasonal summer beers make me all giddy, winter coffee blends do the same. the balance of richness and hints of spice found in most winter blends is what always does it for me, and i expect that this blend will be just that- perfect.

[Your Morning Coffee] Holiday Edition

"last christmas" by wham!
the brew dujour:
fair trade holiday blend- it's over. finally. i, for one, woke up exhausted this morning. not because of a long day yesterday, but because i was stupid enough to think that christmas night would be a great time to look at the tree in rockefeller center. needless to say i won't ever do that again, and i woke up cranky. but a cup of this brew rekindled that dwindling christmas spirit with it's toasty aroma and mellow blend. i could smell the evergreen branches again...
