Word On The Street Is...

Saturday, December 13, 2008

...that the roots are going to be jimmy fallon's house band on late night with jimmy fallon, which debuts in march 2009 on nbc. say what you will about jimmy fallon, but you know that he's funny as hell. and i'm really hoping that they make this song his theme song, thought i doubt a song about pushing one's "seed in her bush for life" will get much consideration from ben silverman-goldstein-berkowitz. then again, jay leno did snatch the 10 pm slot (shoot. me. now.).

Thank God for Justin Timberlake...

because paul rudd was a dud. and i had such high hopes. of course, the funniest skit of the night, justin, andy, and the new guy dancing with beyonce to 'single ladies,' probably won't make it onto the net because beyonce's record label sucks. but i'm sure they will be rerunning it the saturday after next. prepare your tivo...

Swear to Vote.

Monday, November 03, 2008

a friend of mine just posted this. he was able to wind up everything that i've been thinking into one. simple. paragraph. for you-

The election is upon us and I, like most Americans, just can't frickin' wait for it to be over. I haven't exactly been around for, or conscious of, a ton of presidential races but this one in particular seems to be centered around the "look what a retarded Nazi my opponent is" premise. Maybe they've all been like that or maybe I'm more sensitive to it this time around because I actually find myself with a strong horse in this race but it's exhausting and frequently laughable. Regardless of the result, two entities will have benefited, the American people and Saturday Night Live and as long as those two interest groups are being served, it's been a success. Congress is FINALLY going to have a new scapegoat in the Casa de Blanco and SNL had it's first funny skit(s) in recent memory. The cast of that show is the real change we need. If you're not getting out and voting on Tuesday you should seriously consider seeking professional help. I don't know if there's an apathy treatment program but if the current state of the nation isn't enough to put you on the road to recovery maybe a swift brick to the head is the best course of action for you."

i wasn't so upset about tina fey not being on snl last night. after all, she deserved the night off after thursday's performance with will ferell. i was a bit more upset that we didn't get another edition of bronx beat. damn it amy, couldn't you squeeze your loins for one more night?

this obama variety show sketch did make up for a bit of the disappointment though. and thank god they had coldplay to fill in the lost time, rather than, i don't know, portishead?!

Zing. Zing. And Zing.

Sunday, October 05, 2008

and i'm not even talking about snl from last night. (though i must say, queen latifa did a bang up job.) i'm talking about this post that just came through on jezebel that gave me the chills:

"According to the Huffington Post, Sarah Palin flubbed a Madeleine Albright quote at a rally this morning in California. " "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," Palin said, when the actual quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." Apparently, Palin got the quote from a Starbucks coffee cup and decided to share it with the crowd. Well, you know what, Sarah Palin? There are a lot of places in Hell, I'm sure, but I was raised to believe that Hell is for people who sell their souls to the Devil, in a metaphorical sense, by turning their backs on what they believe is right. And Sarah Palin, I don't care if you're a woman. I think you're wrong, and there's no way I'm going to Hell for standing up and telling you so.

This is the United States of America, and if you want the respect of me, or millions of other women, you should probably stop threatening us with hellfire and nonsense. And I don't think you, of all people, a woman who believes that rape victims should have to carry their rapist's babies, should be throwing around quips about hell and supporting other women. Maybe you should consider why so many women disagree with you, and if you really support your fellow women, you should be able to recognize, understand, and support their right to not blindly follow you just because we share the same genitalia. I don't know much about Heaven and Hell, but there's a special place on earth called the voting booth that I'll be visiting in November, and I sure as hell won't be supporting you."
you can find a video of the flub on youtube HERE, where, if you watch it, you will see that she gets her wish, to be made fun of in the news the next day. at least she knows how stupid she is now.

'The Bush Doctrine' Movie as seen in Times Square, decidedly NOT about Politics... [UPDATED]

Sunday, September 28, 2008

{originally posted at 2:11pm}

saturday night live was great last night, and not just because of this sketch. every sketch was pretty funny for a change. but after rewatching the entire episode a second time, i realized that this palin/couric interview got the most laughs, and it got me thinking...

so i went back and watched last week's skit when tina fey was on the first time. after the crowd's initial reaction to her being back, it was just the typical laughs of "wow, what an idiot." however this week, you could hear a lot more belly laughs throughout the entire 6 minute dialogue. great for nbc, but really, really bad for the moose queen of wasilla. because i went and found the transcript from the actual cbs news interview, and found that most of the dialogue from snl was not written by their writers, rather it was taken directly from the transcript of the original interview! i snipped a few examples below, but you can check out the rest of the transcript HERE.
