Laundry FAIL

Monday, March 09, 2009

although i'm sure this tag is in a t-shirt from an über-hip thread shop like busted tees or threadless, i'm sure it wasn't meant to be noticed. and if by some chance you have no life and happen to read your t-shirt's care tag, it's placed there in hopes of putting a smile on your face, if only for one second, before you go off on some feminist rant.

this was posted on failblog this morning and has a very special meaning to me. growing up i lived in a house with two older sisters, a mom and a grandma, so it was a rare occurrence that i ever had to do my own laundry. that was, until one day after watching an episode of sally jessy raphael about chauvinist asswipes, i was STUPID enough to say out loud, presumably after being asked to put the load of wash that was in the washer into the dryer, that "LAUNDRY WAS WOMEN'S WORK." needless to say, i've been doing my own laundry since about the third grade...[photo via failblog]

[Your Morning Coffee]

"i saw the light" by todd rundgren
the brew dujour:
fair trade organic ethiopian yirgacheffe- "coffee can be traced back to as early as the ninth century, when it appeared in the highlands of ethiopia. according to legend, ethiopian shepherds were the first to observe the influence of the caffeine in coffee beans when their goats appeared to "dance" and to have an increased level of energy after consuming wild coffee berries. from ethiopia, coffee spread to egypt and yemen. it was in arabia that coffee beans were first roasted and brewed, similar to how it is done today."

these beans are a tribute to the humble beginning of the brew that i love so much. the sweet flavor of chocolate dipped orange rind lingers with each sip, and the slightly smoky roast balances the sweetness perfectly. rare perfection that can only be found at the source.

HE'BREW | Lenny Bruce R.I.P.A.

Monday, January 12, 2009

it's no secret that i love me a good i.p.a. luckily for me i.p.a.'s and double i.p.a.'s are the new "it" beer in the brewing world. smaller breweries have been turning out gems like sierra nevada and longhammer for years, and now the big guys are trying to catch up. unfortunately for them, i.p.a.'s need to be nursed, and the handcrafted ones will always taste better that any bud or miller version.

and on that note, i'm attempting to drink my way through the i.p.a. menu at the capital ale house. i partook in this one the other night, and in my drunkeness, i snapped this shot to share with you. when i was in college, i went through a phase that proclaimed lenny bruce as my lord and savior; i've since made it through all that, but still have much respect and admoration for the man. this brew was made to "salute the jew" and celebrate the 40 year anniversary of his death. it was made in super small quantities, and when i found out that this was the last bottle, i felt as if i had no choice but to partake in its goodness. he'brew | lenny bruce r.i.p.a. maltier than an i.p.a. should be, but damn delicious.

[Your Morning Coffee]

Sunday, January 11, 2009

i must mention, as a side note to your morning coffee, that bread's greatest hits was the very first cd that i ever owned.

"everything i own" by bread
the brew dujour:
fair trade wicked winter blend- a brew drunk in honor of the ridiculous amounts of snow that mother nature has dumped upon our northern regions. why not enjoy the cold with a toasty, chocolaty cup of caffeinated goodness? wicked winter is the way to go. (even if you're stuck in non-snow covered regions like myself.)

The End of 2008 Means That You Can Expect One Thing: A Boatload of Lists

Saturday, December 27, 2008

gawker, defamer, perezhilton, you name the blog and they've got lists to celebrate the end of the year. celebrity fights, best songs, best reality tv moments, the list goes on. i haven't bothered posting any of the 30 or so that i've seen so far, but this one, from this recording, is worth it. mostly because if i were to make a list of the most facsinating people of 2008, i'd probably have come up with an identical list. (with the exception of david foster wallace, because i just don't get the big deal about him.)

StuffWhitePeopleLike + FatAmericanTV = Kiva [PSA]

stuff white people like has been on my google reader since the day i started reading blogs. it started like most successful blogs- as a human with a passion, a sense of humor, and a computer. its authors, christian lander & myles valentin, have seen their success grow to new heights in recent months with the publication of stuff white people like: the book, available HERE on amazon.

their continued success has lead them to design a t-shirt based on entries from their blog. they've teamed up with fat american to offer the sale of the new shirt, and a few weeks ago, christian asked for his readers to recommend a non-profit organization to receive the profits from the sale of the shirt. i, as well as several others i'm sure, recommended kiva microfunds to be the recipient of the profits from the stuff white people like t-shirt. of the over 500 non-profits that were sent in, christian & myles have chosen 11 to be voted on by the readers of their blog, and kiva.org has made the list!

kiva is an organization that allows people to lend money via the internet to micro-finance institutions in developing countries which in turn lend the money to small businesses. it is a non-profit organization based in san francisco that is supported by donations from its users and through partnerships with businesses and other institutions. kiva captures the entrepreneurial spirit of muhammad yunus, the bangladeshi banker and economist that singlehandedly introduced the idea of micro-loans to the modern world.

NOW, I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TO HELP KIVA. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IT GO HERE AND VOTE FOR 'KIVA.org.'
